The Rail

Night train noises, muffled and low,

nights when the Northern Limited left.

Midnights, we’d hear its strange chord blow, a distant dissonance, treble-cleft.

Languid in summer, dulled in snow,

it spoke to me calmly: Trust and rest.

  1. Nice b/w processing, the dark tones create a mysterious mood in this shot. BTW I just voted for you. You changed your web site again. Nice job, it there a way to select a dark background instead of the white one?

  2. Tracks and trains are one of my favorite category of shots. This seems to step back in time. The majority of my Grandfathers were coal miners and this image reminds me of a track leading into and out from a coal mine.

  3. I worked for a railway in a former life and like shots like this. Excellent composition using the diagonals.

  4. I love the writing you put with your photographs. Nicely done! This looks like a very old shot. I love the tone and mood in it.

  5. NIce old feel on this one. Agree with John on BW processing (we are trying – not easy)

  6. Nice job and I like your style.

  7. Great image, the bw treatment is perfect, I like the way you composed it. I can hear the train coming in the night! SwissCharles
