Stay Grounded

Keep your feet on the ground and your nose in the clouds… my mother always used to say ‘you’re just like your father, nose in the clouds!’… she said it because i would walk to school every day with a girl who just looked down at the sidewalk looking for nickels or pennies, and EVERY DAY she would find money, and we would stop at the corner store and she would buy penny candy, and NEVER SHARE… so i used to get angry and say to myself that TODAY i would stare at the concrete and get candy… of course i didn’t last 10 seconds, i would decide that the flowers and the trees and the sky were much more important than snuffling for money like a truffle pig 🙂

  1. HA! Maybe it’s not either/or but both/and…like when I visit the European churches. If I don’t look up AND down, I miss way too much.

    1. i found it too compelling to go and pick lilacs on the way to school and such… i could NOT look at the dull, grey, ugly concrete at my feet… but you are right, i missed out on money for candy 🙂

  2. You’re right!

    1. felt right to me at the time lol

  3. very nice anecdote, Elaine, i had to chuckle a bit.

    1. i knoow, right? lol and here she thought she was insulting me! lol i took it as a compliment 🙂

  4. “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” –from “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau

And you wouldn’t have been the same Elaine without this little event, you know. 🙂

Personally, I’m glad you kept looking up!

Oh yeah, I do love the shoes. They match your story so well.

    1. i’m glad i kept looking up tooo… tho i do think it was a defining decision for me, and may be why i’m not rich lol

i like that Walden quote… my work need not be lost 🙂

      thank you, Phil… you’re a pal xoxoxox

    2. also, i watched that corner store die a cruel death because of money… Paul’s Store… run by a sweet old couple… when a 7-11 got put in RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET… how i cried when they went out of business! i looked with disdain at the penny candy at 7-11 and the clerk who didn’t love me the way the Pauls did.

  5. That is good advise but I tend to look up and down always seeking photo opportunities.

    1. so you get your penny candy and eat it too… this is good 🙂

  6. i like your way best
